Eflair in the flea market?
“Never tried then never known,” so a wise man said.
I have been curios with flea markets since a long time; markets where people can get used but still in good condition things, or new things in low price. Why flee market?
I started my business with a small capital. I was a single finghter in a home-based office (and I am still now). I have been doing everything almost all by myself, plus occasional help from hubby and my little entertainer. As a newbie in jewelry business, I did neither have a store nor someone’s store where I could display my items without monitor. And there was a Saturday flee market offering a good opportunity.
It was an interesting experience cause it gave me a chance to make face to face contact with customers and got direct responses from them. I got very positive response for the items themselves. Beautiful, they said. But it didn’t deserve the price I put on just because they were sold in flea market. And many visitors thought that the items were not real silver just because they were sold there. What a pitty flea market with such stereotype!
It turned out that the only one who could surely make good money there was the coordinator, to whom we had to pay the cost for selling there. For my case especially, it didn’t just worth it. With all efforts I had made (preparating, transporting, standing hours, and stealing my family-time in the weekends, it didn’t just worth it. So I stopped after four times selling there. And more than that: Eflair’s items were, and are, not flea market items, though I am not against that market as a first step to start your business. A lesson learned.
